Johnny Depp wins defamation case against Amber Heard

The Jury has given out its verdict in favor of actor Johnny Depp in his defamation case against his former wife Amber Heard. The trial had gone viral and was all over the internet with the netizens desperately waiting for what the outcome would be. Depp had filed for a USD50 million lawsuit against Amber Heard and the trial  brought forward a number of factors about the relationship that was shared between the two before they separated.

The Hollywood star had sued his former wife for the Op-Ed that she had written  in The Washington Post in 2018 when she had claimed that her husband had sexually and physically assaulted her  during their marriage that lasted for about a year. Depp and Amber were together in a relationship for a total of about 5 years. The trial lasted for about six weeks and caught attention of people across the globe including the experts who took their respective social media handles and commented on the case. Johnny Depp during the trial managed to receive a lot of support and attention from the public. However, many people were also anxious about how the outcome would be.

Depp is now entitled towards a compensation of USD 15 million as compensation and punitive damages while Heard is also expected to pay USD 2 million as compensatory damages. Soon after the verdict was announced, Depp expressed that the jury gave him his life back and that he was humbled. On the other hand Heard also got a partial success on her counter claim and was given USD 2 million  in compensatory damages.

After the verdict, Amber Heard also released a statement  while expressing her disappointment over the verdict. The actress in her statement added that she was disheartened that even the mountain of evidence was not enough  to stand up for her statements. She also said that she is more disappointed for what the verdict would mean for other women.
