The COVID-19 infection started to spread from China to countries across the globe in 2020 and in just a year, vaccines started to rollout. However, as the health experts expected, the virus mutated in different versions and the Delta variant is currently the deadliest known. The good news is that the vaccines by Moderna, Oxford and Pfizer offer a higher protection against the new variant. The fresh study has not been stamped, sealed and delivered but it had compared the efficacy of these vaccines with the Delta variant.

The authors of the study found that just a single dose of any of these vaccines provides protection against the infection and many other outcomes. The Delta variant was first found in India and it was found that only one dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine was effective against the variant. Butnthse findings were contrary to the study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine was just 36 percent after a single dose. The study was conducted with the help of the data from Public Health England. It was also found that the single dose of the Astrazeneca vaccine was 30 percent effective.

The Canadian study found that the single dose of the Pfizer vaccine was 78 percent effective, Moderna 96 percent while AstraZeneca vaccine was 88 percent effective against the Delta variant. This was in case of the severe illness that resulted in hospitalization. On the other hand the AstraZeneca vaccine showed a lower efficacy rate against the symptomatic illness that was caused by the Gamma and Beta variants.

These were first detected in the countries like Brazil and South Africa. The efficacy of the vaccine stood at 48 percent. COVID-19 continues to spread across the globe but the vaccines are also being administered at the same time. It is important that people across the globe continue to get their shots and remain protected.
