It has been quite some time since the vaccinations have been available for administration for the healthcare workers, people with pre-existing conditions and senior citizens. A number of people have been the vaccinations, but there has been a group that continues to refrain from taking the vaccine due to a number of reasons. But now a new rule will make it mandatory for everyone to take the vaccine. People in New York will have to show their COVID-19 passport that will be showing their negative test results or a vaccination if they want to enjoy any sporty event or want to catch a movie.

The initiative was announced by the governor Andrew Cuomo, who has called it as the Excelsior Pass on March 4, 2021. The pass that was announced has been developed in partnership with IBM and will be used to confirm the individual’s vaccination or the person’s negative COVID-19 test. The program will be under testing phase in the initial phase and has started from February 27, 2021. It was tested at the Brooklyn Nets game at Barclay’s Centre in Brooklyn.

The testing then continued at the New York Rangers game at Madison Square Garden. The system is similar to the mobile airline boarding pass, where the individuals will be able to take a print of the pass or store it on their smartphone with the help of Excelsior Pass’s Wallet App. Every pass will be having a secure QR code and the organizers at the venue will be scanning with the help of a companion app that will confirm about the COVID health issues with the person.

At the same time the governor said that the state is trying its best to vaccinate as many people as possible and as quickly as possible. This will help to keep the infection rate down and would also help to reenergize the state in a safe and smart way.
