She’s a gorgeous actress, married to the Sexiest Man Alive and living the envious Hollywood life. Yet Blake Lively feels that all of that is “not perfect”. The former Gossip Girls star speaks her mind in an interview with Glamour magazine. She is also their covergirl in the upcoming September issue, looking as ethereally beautiful as she did years ago in Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants. She really wants to change the notion that people have of celebrities, including her.
“It’s nonsense. It simplifies people. Not all men, but a subsection of men, have a desire to understand and control women. To do that, you have to paint them into this thing you can wrap your head around. But women are complex.”
Blake Lively, 29, and Ryan Reynolds, aka Deadpool, have been married since 2012. Their fairytale life, where they always seem to be so in love with each other, is so perfect, it’s nauseating! “We’re really shy people who express ourselves best when we’re acting, when we’re hiding as someone else. So the fact that very shy people have to share that shy person with the world – and are sometimes hurt by it – it’s very weird emotionally.”
She says that “what you see in the media is not real life. So when you read, ‘Oh, she’s got a perfect life’, or ‘her life is crumbling’ – they pick narratives for everyone. And the narratives stick.”
And how does she and Ryan Reynolds manage to keep their busy Hollywood lives in check? “We don’t work at the same time. I admire people who find that what fulfils them is their art or their work, but what fulfils both me and my husband is our family. Knowing that, everything else comes second. We’ve each given up stuff we’ve loved in order to not work at the same time.”
