Updated Trends: Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour’s son, has confessed that he was the one who destroyed the cenotaph during the student riots in London. Charlie Gilmour was photographed as he was swinging on the cenotaph, and he came up with a formal apology. It was the photograph near the memorial where the cenotaph is kept, and during the riots Charlie desecrated it — his photograph was shown all over the world media.
He was reportedly feeling bad after the incident, and especially when it was showcased around the world. Charlie accepted that it was a moment of idiocy and disrespect to the martyrs of Britain. Charlie, 21 is at the Cambridge University and is reading History at Girton College.
After the incident, he felt that he should come up with an apology and said “I would like to express my deepest apologies for the terrible insult that my actions represented.”. He added, “I feel nothing but shame. My intention was not to attack or defile the Cenotaph. I got caught up in the spirit of the moment and did not realise it was the Cenotaph. Ignorance is a poor excuse but I am sincerely sorry.”
