Sandalwood has been a part of the beauty regimes of women since centuries. But with the introduction of commercial products in the market and adulteration, the importance and even the existence has become near extinct. Sandalwood can be a great ingredient for the skin care routine and is one of the oldest remedies that are used by women across the globe. If you have access to some of the purest form of sandalwood, here are a few benefits and ways you can include the ingredient in your everyday skincare routine.

1. Helps to remove tan – Sandalwood is beneficial for those who suffer from tanning and pigmentation due to prolonged exposure in the sun. The signs are usually seen on the forehead and on the tip of the nose. Mix one teaspoon of sandalwood powder with two teaspoons of fresh aloe vera gel and half teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture evenly on the face and let it dry. Rinse off with cold water.

2. Prevents fast ageing of the skin – Ageing of the skin begins when the elasticity reduces. The skin begins to become dry and gradually begins to sag. In case of dry skin, use one teaspoon of sandalwood powder with fresh cream or curd. In case of oily skin, mix the powder with green tea and make a paste. Apply it on the face and leave it for at least 20 minutes and rinse off with luke warm water. Pat dry.

3. Helps to reduce acne – Acne is a problem that a number of people suffer from due to the drastic lifestyle changes. Sandalwood has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to soak up excess oil in the skin. Mix the powder with turmeric and rosewater and make a mask. Apply the mixture evenly all over the face and neck and leave it to dry completely. Rinse off with cold water or lukewarm water.

Tip – Avoid using warm or hot water on the face even during winter season. It takes away the natural oils of the skin and makes it dry and flaky.
