Coronavirus scare continues across the globe and people taking utmost care and precautions to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. While taking measures there are certain commodities which are in high demand as they have become essential to deal with the virus. Commodities like face masks and have been on a high demand in recent times and people are ready to pay any price for it. Looking at the demand, there are sellers who are trying to take advantage of the situation and are getting involved in price gouging. E-commerce giant Amazon is trying its best to clamp down the attempts of price gouging for the products that are used to prevent the spread of the virus.
Some of the online sellers continue to make big money by pricing their products exorbitantly while taking advantage of the situation. There are third party sellers on the platform which are charging high prices for hand sanitizers. For instance a pack of two 8-ounce bottles of Purell was on sale for more than a hundred dollars on March 2, 2020.
People residing at the places which are hard hit by the virus have turned to online shopping amidst a few reports that mentioned that the actual stores do not have any supplies for disinfectants, face masks and cleaning supplies. Amazon last week assured that it has removed or blocked more than 1 million products on its platforms as the sellers were indulging in price gouging and also had misleading claims over the viral disease. The company also assured that it is constantly monitoring the pricing that has been set by the third party sellers, who have violated the policies.
Coronavirus originated in the Wuhan province of China and has now spread to other countries like Thailand, Singapore, Iran, Japan, Italy and the United Arab Emirates. People across the globe are startled over the spread of the dangerous disease and are taking every possible measure to deal with it.
