Due to recent severe weather conditions in the U.S. and globally, people were once again stuck inside their house or neighborhood. These times call for different ways to pass time, which don’t necessarily involve going outside to face the elements. Luckily, such periods of grace can be just what we need – full of cozy activities with family and friends, with plenty of time to catch up on books or movies, or filled with fun winter activities.

Here are some ideas of things you could do without leaving the comfort of your home:

1. Playing board games with friends and family. Cause nothing beats friendly rivalry and classic board games. While you could choose classics like Monopoly or Scrabble that are appropriate for any age, you could try to learn some modern board games like Settlers of Catan, Saboteur, Activity or Cards against humanity.

2. Get a head start on your reading objectives for 2016. Due to some days with a blizzard, you might finish you list quicker than you think. You might even start with a book that teaches you to read quicker, so you can quickly read through the rest of your list with no problem.

3. Clean up social media and email. We’re all guilty of keeping outdated or useless information on our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn. Now you have all the time in the world to clean it up. Get rid of people you don’t want to be connected with, exit non-relevant groups, try to follow influencers from your domain and delete old photos.

4. Learn something new. Provided that your internet still works. A foreign language could be a great idea for 2016 and apps like Duolingo can set up your learning process quite nicely.

If you do prefer outdoor activities, remember to dress accordingly. Your mood with surely be killed if your extremities freeze or can’t breathe because of the cold. Other than that, building snowmen, strolling around town on sleights or simply taking walks to your favorite coffee house are all excellent bets. The heavy snow and somewhat eerie atmosphere will give the places you know so very well a distinct look that you will not forget any time soon.

A blizzard could also be great for some more out-of-the-box activities, like photography and video making. Falling snow can make your photos pop and look special and you and your friends can have lots of fun taking them. Make sure you suit your camera or phone for the cold weather, though, since the battery usually drains very quickly in freezing weather.

All in all, the main idea is to embrace the possibilities that the blizzard gives you. If you plan and execute these well, you might even regret spring coming and search for excuses to stay inside for as long as you can.
