    1. Proper posture – While sitting with your family, one has to make sure that the child maintains a proper posture by keeping their hands and legs to themselves and together. While having a meal together, one must concentrate on eating and not anything else. An erect posture at the table is a good indicator of one’s personality. And before sitting at the table, ensure that your child washes his/her hands.

    2. Request someone to pass the dish – While having a meal together, instead of reaching for the dish kept on the other corner of the table, you must train your child to ask someone to pass the dish. It is rude to reach for a dish over someone else’s meal. It could give the impression of being inconsiderate and disrespectful.

    3. Elbows off the table – Keeping your elbows on the table will upset all the others sitting along with you. So it is better to teach your child not to keep their elbows on the table. Resting your forearms is acceptable.

    4. Eat with sophistication – One must not be in a hurry to eat one’s food. It is unruly to stuff your mouth with food and a child must be aware of it. Small bites and chewing your food properly with your mouth closed is something every child must be taught. Also, your child must learn that food is not a toy and should not be played with, not should he/she bang the spoon/fork on the plate. The spoon is in the right hand, and the fork in the left. Finally, eat quietly and don’t make noises.

    5. Say thanks – When someone serves food on your plate, teach your child to say thank you to the person who has served. It is a way to show gratitude and makes a good impression on the host.
