The first man to walk on the moon, astronaut Neil Armstrong didn’t just come home with a title never held by any man in the history of mankind, he came back with a small memento from the moon. Neil collected moon dust and small rocks in a small bag as he bade the lunar surface goodbye and made his way to Earth.

48 years later, that small bag of moon dust is slated to be auctioned off by Sotheby and is estimated to fetch a prize of anywhere between $2 million to $4 million! The bag of lunar dust is one of the few items being auctioned off by Sotheby as they commemorate the 48th anniversary of the first lunar landing on July 20. Other items which will be auctioned off include – Armstrong’s snapshot of fellow Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin standing on the moon, which is expected to fetch up to $4,000. And a documented flight plan that the astronauts of the first lunar mission used to return to Earth.

Astronaut Neil Armstrong passed away in 2010 in Ohio. His companion on the mission, Astronaut and Engineer Buzz Aldrin, who became the second person to walk on the moon, currently resides in the USA and is 89 years old.
