Updated Trends: FIFA bans two executive committee members from voting in the World Cup hosting ballot
The Executive Committee members of the FIFA, Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii have been barred for the voting in the World Cup hosting ballot for the years 2018 and 2022. Adamu was banned from FIFA previously for three years and Temarii for one year. The duo is said to have asked for a bribe in return of the World Cup votes.
A sting operation on Adamu and Reynald exposed them while asking for money.
The ballot will take place on December 2. There will be 22 voters instead of 24 and nine candidates.
Apart from these two, four other FIFA officials have also been suspended.
Ismael Bhamjee of Botswana is banned for four years, Amadou Diakite of Mali and Ahongalu Fusimalohi of Tonga are banned for three years and Tunisia’s Slim Aloulou has been banned for two years..
They too is said to have been the former executive committee members. Adamu has been fined 10,000 Swiss francs and Temarii has to pay 5,000 Swiss francs as a fine.
