Updated Trends: President Obama Backing India For Seat In UN Security Council, Move To Counter China?
As President Barack Obama was in India recently during his three day visit to the largest economy in south Asia, he has promptly quoted that he is giving a full backing to India for the seat in the UN Security Council, and this is where speculators are feeling this could be a move by the President to counter China.
A New York Times article mentioned that the UNSC seat presented by Obama to India “signalled the United States’ intention to create a deeper partnership of the world’s two largest democracies that would expand commercial ties and check the influence of an increasingly assertive China”.
The US is showing strong and willful interests in India, as it is a rising economic power and has global aspirations around the world. This will also strike negative feedbacks from China and more likely from Pakistan. Pakistan on the other hand had showed its worry about Obama’s visit to India, as they felt very insecure about it. As India one day becomes an important member in the UNSC, China and Pakistan will indeed feel very annoyed and worried over the fact that India is carrying more reputation, responsibility and importance on a global stage.
