Many people might not be focusing much on what to eat before and after a workout session. But they do not realize that it is the key towards better results of all the hard work. Having a proper snack before you workout, gives you the much needed energy for an intense session, or you might end up feeling lethargic and your body might not be able to perform at its best. Eating right is equally important as  the cells are prepared to absorb the proteins and carbs needed for the body. Here we will be discussing about the right things you need to eat before and after a work out session.

What to eat before working out

It is important to know what your body accepts and what it does not. You don’t have to eat anything heavy before your workout session. You just need to make sure that you provide your body with ample energy to last for the session. It could be a granola bar or a banana with peanut butter which is ideal before you begin your session. Make sure that you avoid which is high on fat or high on fibre as well as it will take a longer time to digest. Even a hard-boiled egg with a toast can be sufficient with just a string of cheese.

What to eat after working out

This is the time when your muscles are tired as they have burned a lot of glucose. Intense work outs can deplete your store of glucose and this is when the body begins to make use of the muscles for fuel. You need to prevent the muscle loss and eat within 45 minutes after cardio or you could also do it sooner. Eating within the time span helps in better muscle recovery. You could have a tuna sandwich with whole-grain bread along with a small piece of fruit.

Hydration

When you are working out, make sure that you are sipping on water. You need to drink at least 20 ounces of water two hours before working out and 7 to 10 ounces for every 10 to 20 minutes of exercise.
