Online shopping has faced a new boom especially during the coronavirus pandemic. It has made things easy for people to remain at home and order essentials and non-essentials from the internet to be delivered at the door-step. After the success of Instagram Shops and Facebook Marketplace, users will now be able to shop on WhatsApp as well.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg during a Live Audio Room on June 23, 2021 announced about three e-commerce updates that will be launched for the Facebook products. The products are Shops Ads, Shops on WhatsApp Marketplace and Instagram Visual Search. Zuckerberg in a Facebook post wrote that the Marketplace is used by nearly one billion users every month that makes it easy for the businesses to ring their shops to Marketplace so that more people could be reached. Talking about WhatsApp, when a user views a shop on the service, they will have the option to chat with a business before they zero on buying an item.

The F8 conference was held earlier in June, 2021 and Facebook had then revealed about the updates to WhatsApp for businesses. Earlier the users had to wait for weeks to set up a business account but now the businesses can sign up within a matter of a few minutes. The service has more than 2 billion users across the globe but only 175 million people message with WhatsApp business accounts everyday for customer service like purpose. The Shops will be rolled out on WhatsApp very soon. Things are getting intense in terms of technology and this is happening mostly due to the increasing competition in the online market alone.

Facebook has said that it will also introduce AI-based visual search feature on Instagram. The feature will be launched for testing in the upcoming months. With the help of AI, the users will be able to upload their own pictures to find similar items.
