COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease and is affecting people across the globe. While a number of people get admitted when the infection becomes severe, most of the people can be treated at home. All they need to have is a separate room with a washroom. However, once you have taken up the responsibility to take care of the patient at home certain things have to be kept in mind and always give medicines after consulting a doctor. But people who are taking care of the patients also need to be careful. Here are a few things they need to keep in mind.

1. Wear a mask and a face shield – Now that the patient is isolated in a room, whenever you need to interact with the patient for food or anything else, make sure that you are wearing a surgical or N95 mask and a face shield. Discard the mask and sanitize the face shield after a single use. Also make sure that you don’t touch your mask or your face shield.

2. Wash your hands – This might not be healthy for your skin, but is important to wash your hands frequently with soap. You can also use a hand sanitizer when you don’t have access to water and soap. Do not touch your eyes, mouth or nose. To take care of your skin, you can keep a hand cream handy and apply it every time you wash your hands.

3. Use disposable utensils – While providing food to the patient, make sure that they are given food in disposable utensils which can later be discarded. If you do not have disposables, make sure that the utensils are kept separately and wear a mask while washing them.

4. Maintain a balanced and a healthy diet – While you are taking care of a COVID-19 patient you need to take care of your health as well. Have a nutritious and a balanced diet to maintain your immunity levels.
