4 Causes of chronic headache and ways to treat them

Headache is a common problem and can be caused due to a number of reasons. If the problem is occasional, then there isn’t a reason to be worried, but a few people face the problem on an everyday basis and that could be an indication of an underlying problem that needs attention at the earliest. Here are some of the main causes of headache and a few ways you can prevent them.

1. Migraine problem – Migraine headache usually occurs on one side of the brain that can sometimes be unbearable. Some might even experience sensitivity from light and sound that could lead to more problems like nausea, vomiting and vision problems.

2. Stress – Excessive stress can be caused due to all work and no rest. Such a headache can cause stiffness around the head and constant hammering pain in both the sides of the head. Such a headache can also gradually lead to the neck.

3. Rebound headache – Such a pain is usually caused, when a person frequently takes medicines to treat a headache. Such a pain can also lead to sleeplessness, nasal congestion, neck pain or restlessness.

4. Cluster headache – this can occur 1 to 8 times in a day and can last for 15 minutes to even three hours. A person can experience pain around the eyes, redness in the eyes, facial sweating or blocked or runny nose.

Ways to treat –

There are a number of over-the-counter medicines that can be taken or it can also be treated with external application ointments. You can also consult a doctor who can prescribe medicines suitable for you.

Home remedies –

Prevention is better than cure. As far as possible, try to avoid stressful situations. Treat your body with healthy foods and not junk food. Exercise regularly and take breaks during working hours. It is also wise to reduce the alcohol intake and meditate for at least 15 to 20 minutes per day.
