UIT or Urinary Tract Infection is a very common problem among women and is caused due to a number of reasons. One of the main reasons for this problem is poor hygiene. Such a problem should not be taken lightly and should not be treated at home. In case of such problems, a qualified medical practitioner has to be consulted, who will prescribe proper medications. However, the problem can be prevented and here are a few tips that can be followed to avoid UTI.

1. Remain hydrated always – Hydration is one of the main factors for Urinary Tract Infection. As far as possible, you need to take plenty of fluids including water and juices to maintain the hydration in the body. Water helps to improve the functioning of the urinary tract and also prevents the spread of the bacteria to other organs around the tract.

2. Maintain proper hygiene – The basic here is hygiene and it can also be called as the key. The genital area is sensitive to moisture and is a prone place for the bacteria to grow. Make sure that you use a feminine wash to keep the area clean and it is also advisable not to hold the urine for a prolonged time. It is also recommended to pass urine after a sexual intercourse.

3. Use heating pads – There are a various kinds of heating pads available in the market. Place one at the lower back and the other on the lower abdomen area. It not just helps to soothe the discomfort and pain, but the heat also helps to kill the bacteria in the urinary tract.

4. Consume probiotics – Probiotics are good for the gut and it helps to increase the good bacteria that helps to kill the UTI causing bacteria. They can be found in a number of fermented foods like probiotic yogurt, kimchi and others. These foods can also be consumed to improve the overall gut health.
