The Met Gala is one of the most exclusive events in New York City, gathering hundreds of celebrities, movie stars, singers and fashion connoisseurs. The event takes place every year and marks the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s yearly exhibition. Participants are required to tailor their outfit to the theme of each event, which this year was absolutely spectacular: Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology
The main question of the event was a very straightforward one: How can we integrate technology into fashion and design outfits that can be worn in 2016 and beyond? Each of the 700 people on the guest list tried to come up with their own answer – some with reasonable success, others, not so much – but one particular participant clearly stood out.
Emma Watson proved once again that she is one of the most creative, active and realistic celebrities in our time. Her appearance at the Met Gala was viewed as a highlight of her recent activities. She wore a dress of her own concept, in collaboration with Calvin Klein and Eco-Age, a company which specialized in aiding businesses in finding sustainable solutions to their daily struggles. The dress was made entirely out of recycled materials. The body was crafted out of yarns made from recycled bottles, and even the tiniest details (like the zippers) were also made from recycled materials. The linings were made out of organically grown cotton and silk, ensuring that the entire dress is 100% eco-friendly, but nothing short of stunning.
The actress showed once again that she is very concerned with the environment and very responsible with her every action. She chose the city’s number one fashion event to raise awareness regarding alternative solutions and proving that new, eco-friendly technologies can be used to bring fashion to new highs. Her message on Facebook conveyed the same message: that creativity, technology and fashion can work together.
