Updated Trends: A new study has mentioned that eating eggs for breakfast can help overweight people battle their hunger pangs. A study which was funded by the American Egg Board found that consumption of eggs reduced hunger and also boosted hormones which made people feel full.

In the study, 20 people were observed and they were split in two groups. The first half were given eggs for breakfast, while the other group was given cereal for breakfast.

Both the groups were given lunch three hours later to test their hunger. Dr. Carrie Ruxton, who is a dietician said, “This study adds to a growing evidence base which suggests that eggs may indeed be nature’s appetite suppressant.”

Ruxton added that the earlier studies revealed that eating eggs for breakfast or lunch helps in consuming lesser calories in meals later in the day. But for the first time, new research has provided information on hormone levels which shows that consumption of eggs boost PYY, which is a potent satiety hormone. This helps in reducing the levels of hunger hormone ghrelin. The high protein level of eggs combined with their low fat content means that eggs are best for those who are trying to manage weight.
