Here comes news that brings some respite to the Pakistanis seeking Indian citizenship. Centre has relaxed norms for the Pakistani citizens of Indian origin, who lived here before Dec 2009.

Indian Government has accepted their request to eliminate hurdles from the passport Act 1920 (entry in India), thus making means for their citizenship.

Many Pakistani of Indian beginning have sought Indian citizenship. Indian citizenship law says that nationality can be granted to those Pakistani who lived in India for 7 years and hold valid passport of Pakistan.

Passport issued by Pakistan expires after 5 years, a Pakistani citizen staying in India becomes illegal after the passport expires. Also Pakistan does not renew the passport; instead a fresh application has to be made with the Pakistan Government, this makes it difficult to seek Indian residency.

In view of that, an order to this effect has been notified on May 15, which says that people who are not capable to renew their Pakistani passports, and those who came here before December 31, 2009, cannot be declared illegal.

Most of these Pakistani citizens are in Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad Akola, Amravati, and Nagpur. They can now hope to get Indian citizenship soon.
