Keep your bone health intact and avoid these foods that deplete bone density.
Bone density is an important factor that influences bone health. Good bone density means that your bones are protected against diseases like osteoporosis or risk of fractures. Our diet affects all aspects of our body, bone density is not excluded.Â
Here are a few foods which have the capability to deplete bone density.
1. Caffeine – A recent research conducted by the Swedish Department of Toxicologyâs National Food Administration has found that women who drink 330 milligrams of caffeine in a day are prone to bone fractures which are caused due to weakness in the bones. The risk was more prominent in women who consumed less calcium and more caffeine.Â
2. Excessive proteins – Proteins are indeed good for the body, but if consumed in excess, then the body produces chemicals known as sulfates which adversely affect bone density. Animal protein is usually the cause of excess protein levels in the body.Â
3. Excessive sodium – Excessive sodium intake is harmful for the bones as it leads to the excretion of calcium through urine. Sodium levels are high in processed foods like cheese, baked snacks, burgers etc.Â
4. Alcohol – Alcohol is also responsible for the reduction of bone density as it interferes in the absorption of calcium and vitamin D. It is advisable to limit alcohol intake to just a couple of times a week.Â
