Updated Trends: Russian journalist Oleg Kashin in coma after a serious attack
Oleg Kashin, a famous Russian journalist working for the Kommersant newspaper, has been severely attacked right outside his home in Moscow. He is reportedly in a very serious condition.
Reports state that the journalist is hospitalized and is in induced coma after suffering a fractured jaw, broken shins and injuries to his fingers and skull.
The authorities are handling the case as an attempt to murder. The editor of Kommersant, Mikhail Mikhailin said, “It’s clear that the people who did this did not like what he says and writes.”
Kashin has recently written about anti- Kremlin protests and extremist rallies and many believe this is the reason that he has landed in this condition.
According to the information provided by the Human Rights groups, attacks on journalists in Russia are a common scenario. They state that there are at present 19 unsolved murder cases of journalists since 2000.
