It is common for women to experience pain during periods. Some of them experience excruciating pain during the phase and that discourages them to exercise. This phase of pain can begin before the periods begin and some even experience decreased performance and restlessness. However, periods should not prevent you from exercising a having a physical activity. Exercise during periods has its own benefits towards physical and mental health. Maintaining an active regime during the phase can actually help relieve some of the usual pain. Here we will be discussing about the exercises you can indulge in during periods.

  1. Walking– One of the most convenient as well as the most effective exercises. The light exercise will allow you to maintain your fitness routine. It helps to reduce some of the PMS symptoms  and helps to maintain your fitness goals. During the menstrual cycle, the hormones tend to fluctuate due to vigorous activities, but light exercise like walking can help.
  2. Light weights – You can very well lift a few light weights at the convenience of your home. You do not have to go the gym. You can maintain your exercise routine but have to reduce the intensity if you begin to feel exhausted. If you are used to perform intensive strength training, then it is wise to choose lighter weights.
  3. Yoga – Yoga is highly recommended during a menstrual cycle. There are a number of Yoga postures that improve blood flow and help to ease the unpleasant ailments. The exercise form is not just beneficial for health but is also good for emotional health. It can help you to remain calm and composed.
  4. Pilates – Pilates is another gentle version of workout and it allows you to do it in your own pace. Pilates helps in enhancing blood flow, particularly of the muscles in the pelvic region. It has its own advantages and is a great exercise for women undergoing menstrual cramps.
