The Thyroid endocrine gland in the vertebrates is located in the neck for humans. The thyroid hormones influence the metabolism of the body and play an important role in the growth and development. But when this organ malfunctions due to poor lifestyle or excess stress, then it can lead to a number of problems like sudden weight gain or a sudden weight loss, hair loss, constipation, anxiety, fatigue and other symptoms. However, the good news is that apart from medications certain exercises can actually help to improve the thyroid conditions.

1. Walking – The simplest and the easiest form of exercise, is walking. You can do it anywhere even at home if you have a treadmill around. If you are scared to step out of the house due to the coronavirus pandemic, you can just walk around in your balcony or the terrace. Walking helps to regain strength and endurance.

2. Yoga – Yoga is one of the most ancient form of exercise that helps with flexibility, strength, cardio and benefits that are related to balance. Practicing yoga for about an hour on an everyday basis can help to make a difference.

3. Shoulder stand with support – People who suffer with thyroid related issues can rely on this exercise. However, you need to be careful about your neck. You could ask for help from a friend or a family member. The exercise strengthens the immune system, improves digestion and also reduces fluid retention in the lower part of the body. It helps to bring back the deoxygenated blood flow to the heart and helps the person to calm down.

4. The plough pose – For the plough pose, you need to lie flat on the back with the arms spread apart and palms facing downwards. Elevate the legs to ninety degrees and inhale. Lift your legs together and inhale. While exhaling you can slowly bring back your legs down.
