People who are recuperating at home while quarantining with COVID-19, often face the discomfort of dry cough. Dry cough does not produce mucus and happens when the throat becomes dry, sore and scratchy. A number of people also face a tingling sensation in the throat especially when they are drinking water, swallowing food or gulping. Finding relief from such kind of cough can be very difficult. If you are one of those, here are a few home remedies that could soothe the condition.
1. Honey with hot water – Honey is used as a medicine for a number of purposes. It has anti-bacterial properties and soothes the dry and sore throat. It also contains anti-biotics that help to heal faster. You just have to mix two tablespoons of honey with hot water and sip it like tea. It helps to relax the throat. This can be done twice a day for best results.
2. Ginger with cloves – Ginger has been mentioned as a medicine by Ayurveda. It works as a great ingredient to treat a number of conditions including respiratory ones. It has antibacterial properties and thus helps to reduce any kind of inflammation. Minced ginger can be added to hot water with some cloves. Boil the concoction for five minutes and sip it like tea for instant relief. This can be had at least twice or thrice a day for improved results.
3. Salt water gargles – Hot water with salt gargles helps to loosen the mucus which is caught in the throat. It does not provide immediate relief but helps to kill the bacteria in long run. People with COVID-19 need to do this at least 3 to 4 times in a day for a faster recovery.
4. Steam inhalation – Steam inhalation is also beneficial for people who are having dry cough. You need to inhale steam from mouth and this helps in quick relief. This can be done for at least 10 minutes twice or thrice a day.
