Online retail giant Amazon has announced that the free one-day delivery has been added to more than ten million items. The new move has been taken after its rival Walmart launched its own next-day delivery program in May, 2019. The e-commerce company said that the products ranging from Echo devices to household items will qualify for the free next-day delivery in the US to those with a Prime membership.
Amazon in a blog post wrote, “Today, the most popular one-day items range from books, beauty and baby wipes to devices, dish detergent and doggie bags. In other words, Prime Free One Day is already 10 times larger than the original two-day offering launched in 2005.” The retail giant added that they will keep adding more selection and will also expand their delivery areas to ensure Prime Members get their products faster than ever. The Prime Members will also find that more and more items are being delivered in just one day.
Amazon had said that it began offering next-day delivery on a variety of products in April and will continue adding millions of items. However, the exact date of the complete roll-out was no revealed. The Prime members pay $119 per year and are not required to meet a minimum purchase amount for the next-day delivery option. The retailer had earlier offered one-day shipping on selected items and free same-day delivery for those whose orders were $35 or above.
At present more than 100 million items qualify for the two-day delivery through Prime. The announcement by Amazon has come just a few weeks after it was offering next day delivery to the online shoppers. Only the caveat: customers will need to purchase items of $35 or more to be eligible. Walmart added that it was planning to expand next-day delivery to most of the US by the end of 2019. On the same day of Walmart’s announcement, Amazon Tweeted that while reminding the members that next-day delivery is available in thousands of cities.
