Stress has become a common phenomenon among people. Not many are aware that this might even lead to various skin issues. Here are a few adverse effects of stress on the skin.
1. Makes skin more oily – When the body is stressed, the hormone cortisol is produced. Producing of cortisol leads to more production of oil. This is why people who do not get pimples might also breakout when they are stressed.
2. Leads to early skin ageing – When the body is stressed, the body tends to become dehydrated and this leads to the formation of skin wrinkles. Wrinkles can make you look aged.
3. Skin inflammation – The hormone cortisol can lead to inflammation of the skin. When the collagen breaks, it leads to formation of wrinkles. Chronic stress has the ability to age the person by up to 3 to 6 years. It can also cause the skin to stop functioning.
4. Aggravates diseases – If you are suffering from certain skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema or rosacae, then stress can lead to worsening of the condition. Stress can also cause symptoms like hair loss, brittle nails and other similar conditions.
