5 Nutritional deficiencies likely to affect mental health

If you are feeling down, it could be because of nutritional deficiencies.

Not many are aware that certain simple nutritional deficiencies can lead to depression. It is always advised see a physician regularly and check your nutrition levels, a drop in which cause fluctuation in moods and mental health in general. Here are a few deficiencies which can be downers.

1. Vitamin D deficiency – Vitamin D deficiency is a major concern, effects of which have recently being recognized by doctors. The author of The Ultramind Solutions, Mark Hyman, has stated that the deficiency is linked to depression, as well as autism and dementia. These levels usually drop during winter and fall months.

2. Omega 3 fatty acids deficiency – Even a person who regularly consumes fish oil supplements and salmon can face a deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acids. This shows that your body sometimes needs to consume more than usual intake of essential minerals, which play a vital role in brain function.

3. Vitamin B Complex deficiency – Some vitamins, including B12a and B6, provide many health benefits, which include reduced risk of stroke, along with healthy nails and skin. Deficiency of these vitamins can affect mental health and lead to depression, especially in women.

4. Iron deficiency – Deficiency of iron is the most common condition in women. Insufficient number of red blood cells can cause fatigue, brain fog or irritability. It is recommended for adults to consume 18 mg of iron on a daily basis.
