If you wake up badly craving a mug of coffee to kickstart your mornings, it is time to replace that caffeine addiction with healthier alternatives. There are many people who at a point start thinking that they cannot live without caffeine. Although it is consumed through harmless drinks like tea and coffee, caffeine is a drug. Here are a few steps you can follow to make it easier to withdraw from dependence.
1. Increase your water consumption – Drink more water whenever you feel the urge to have something related to caffeine. Water helps detox your body. Too much of caffeine with not enough water can lead to dehydration.
2. Find a partner to help you withdraw – Confide in a friend, who can support you and encourage you in a timely manner. Such mental support can help make the process even more simpler. So when you consume caffeine next time, you can at least use the guilt of breaking your promise to a friend to an advantage.
3. Reduce caffeine intake gradually – You do not have to abruptly cut down on caffeine, but can do it gradually. Moreover, this does not mean that you have to completely cut down on caffeine consumption as well. It is just the addiction that you need to loosen your grip on.
4. Take ample rest – When you are trying to reduce your caffeine intake, you might experience a few withdrawal symptoms like headaches, depression, drowsiness, irritability or muscle pain. Make sure that you take ample rest and keep your body relaxed.
