1. Greek yogurt – It contains double the amount of protein that regular yogurt has, so Greek yogurt should become a staple when making healthy smoothies. Use the fat-free kind and add a half-cup for 10 grams of protein, in addition to more calcium.

2. Protein powders – They are good for you, especially whey and soy powders which offer essential amino acids that your body requires in order to repair and build muscle tissue. By adding protein powder to your smoothie, you will incorporate the 20 to 30 grams of high-quality protein which is needed at every meal.

3. Chia seeds – They are rich in alpha-linolenic acid which we have to get from food, as our body is not able to produce it. Make sure to add some Chia seeds to your smoothies as diet rich in this acid is linked to a lower risk of heart disease. In addition to that, these great seeds provide fiber and help with digestion.

4. Pumpkin puree – Pumpkin contains plenty of beta-carotene, which acts as a great antioxidant and helps in protecting cells, as well as the raw material for the production of vitamin A in the body. Try adding one-quarter cup of pumpkin puree to your smoothies and you will get 2 grams of fiber for just 20 calories.
