Updatedtrends.com: Most people think that gaining a little bit of weight is inevitable as they get older, however, the real truth is that age-related weight gain does not happen to everyone and here are 4 ways to avoid it.
1. Strength train a couple of times a week – Retaining or building muscles with the help of strength training will in turn boost your metabolism, as muscle cells burn calories much faster than fat cells.
2. Incorporate cardio into your workout – Make sure to consult your doctor before starting with a high-intensity workout such as cardio. If you do get clearance, try to get 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise at least few times a week, as it will help you burn calories faster.
3. Eat low-calorie, high-volume foods – Foods like fruits and vegetables can offer plenty of nutrients, as well as fiber and water, which means that you will be full longer. Enrich your menu with fresh veggies and fruits, salads, juices and smoothies.
4. Have protein during every meal or snack – Protein is good for your body in many ways, as it helps you to keep hunger under control and it builds and repairs your muscles. Choose leanest sources of protein, such as poultry breast, low fat or nonfat dairy products, seafood, tofu, beans and lentils.
