Updated Trends: Indian-American Astronaut Sunita Williams to Travel to Space For Second Time
Sunita Williams, the Indian-American astronaut, is all set to travel to space for the second time in June 2012. NASA confirmed the news about Sunita Williams’s second space trip, today.
Sunita Williams will be accompanied by Japanese astronaut Akihiko Hoshide and flight engineers Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko on Soyuz 31 flight to the space station.
NASA and its international partners, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and the Russia Federal Space Agency had made the announcement in this regard. They have assigned four new International Space Station crews.
NASA observed that Indo – American astronaut, Sunita Williams, would become the commander of the International Space Station in October 2012.
She was selected by NASA in June 1998. Sunita Williams served as a flight engineer aboard the International Space Station. Sunita Williams holds a world record for females with four spacewalks amounting to 29 hours and 17 minutes of EVA.
During her growth in space, Williams broke the existing record held by Shannon Lucid, establishing a new milestone for females of 195 days in space.
She is born to Gujarati Family in Euclid, Ohio.
