Work and family stress affects women more than men

UpdatedTrends.com: Stress has always proved to be bad for mental as well as physical health. According to a new study, it has been explained why stress, including family stress and other emotional stressors, can harm women more than men.

It is not essential to be related to mental toughness, but researchers say that it is rather biology. Despite the report that men are prone to be the victims of Type A workaholic stress, studies have shown that women are more likely to suffer from heart problems after being under emotional stress.

A ‘broken heart’, which is in medical terms known as Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, is eight times more common in women than men. In such a condition the loss of a partner literally causes the heart muscles to weaken.

The researchers at Penn State College of Medicine went on to find the clues in this gender discrepancy and on the blood flow to the heart. Normally, during the time of stress the heart rate and the blood pressure rises and prompts a greater demand for oxygen. More oxygen carrying blood flows in to the heart muscles and allows the heart to work harder and also meets to the challengers of the stressor.
