In the year 1903, the husband and wife duo were awarded with a Nobel Prize for physics along with Henri Becquerel for the discovery of radioactivity. Curie then slowly started promoting the use of radium for therapeutic purpose. During thee first world war, the scientist had developed small mobile x-ray units that could be used to diagnose injuries. The mobile x–ray units were set up close to the battlefront.
