Obesity alone can cause death of swine flu patients, says new report

American researchers have reported that extremely obese people can be more prone to H1N1 virus, and such people are more likely to die, if infected by the virus.

According to Dr. Janice Louie of the California Department of Public Health, more than 500 patients with a body mass index (BMI) more than 40 were studied. And it was found that such patients are more prone to die as swine flu patients than those who had a normal body mass index.

And the risk increases as the body mass index increases. The report also revealed that the factor of obesity alone can cause death in swine flu patients, it needs not be combined with problems like diabetes or blood pressure.

The results of the study are not new, as many previous reports have mentioned that obesity can cause death. But Dr Louie has said that obesity alone can be threatening factor for swine flu patients.
