Updated Trends: The situation in Greece has gone from bad to worse, as the country is burning with riots amidst the ongoing strikes. Protesters went berserk, as they went head on against the Athens police by throwing stones, gasoline bombs, setting cars on fire and scaring away Christmas shoppers. There were already tens and thousands of people who were on general strike against the government’s austerity measures, as the riots broke out.
The city police retaliated strong and fired tear gas and flash grenades to disperse the people. Reports state that the city saw one of the most violent riots since the country sunk into a financial crisis a year ago. To make matters worse, 28 people have been injured in the clashes, which include 23 police personnel and a former conservative minister who was badly beaten by a group of protesters.
Unions were on a 24 hour strike, protesting against the latest reforms made by the government, which has allowed pay cuts. Greece is trying to find out the best possible measure to reshape it’s crumbled economy, and recently decided to go ahead with pay cuts in different sectors of the country, which has now resulted in a very violent protest.
