Updated Trends: Iran Denies Taking Final Decision On Stoning Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani
Iran has denied taking the final decision of stoning Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who has been accused of adultery, say Iranian authorities. There were reports prior to this that Iran’s government had finally decided that Sakineh would be executed by being stoned, for she had allegedly committed an unforgivable crime of adultery based on the Islamic laws.
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, had a personal talk with his Iranian counter part in context of executing Sakineh, as the news of stoning this Iranian woman has triggered international controversy. According to Kouchner, he has said that Iran has still not taken a final decision of whether she will be executed or not.
Many people from the western countries have spoken against Sakineh’s execution, and have openly protested against the traditional Islamic rule in the country. They have stated that executing through stoning is an ancient and brutal way of carrying out a sentence. France has told Iran, that it is really worried about Sakineh’s judgement.
