Updated Trends: Arizona Execution Of Jeffrey Landrigan Goes Ahead After Court Stay Lifts
The Arizona execution of Jeffrey Landrigan went ahead just after the court lifted the stay over his execution. Jeffrey was accused of killing Chester Dean Dyer in the year 1989, and for this crime, he was awarded a death sentence. The defense lawyers had posted a stay on Jeffrey’s execution after it was known that the drug used for executing him would not meet the US standards and this would be leading to a cruel execution.
But later, the Supreme Court lifted the ban over the execution of Jeffrey and he was given the lethal injection at 10.26 pm local time. The state attorney general argued over the execution process stating that they should clearly mention the source of the anaesthetic and the sodium thiopental which would be used for the execution.
After a thorough inquiry, it was known that the lethal drug was obtained from Britain, as there is a shortage these drugs in the US. The General also stated that the government executors did not acquire the drug from the state’s only producer, Hospira.
