World Alzheimer’s Day – Myths that people should know about the condition

September 21 of every year is observed as World Alzheimer’s Day. Alzheimer’s is a neurological condition that affects the memory of a person and also affects other vital functions. It is a condition that leads to a gradual decline of cognitive function. One of the earliest symptoms of the condition is memory loss, which is why many people ignore  and could lead to further complexities. However, there are a lot of misunderstandings that come in the way of identifying the condition. Here are some of the myths that are related to Alzheimer’s that everyone should be aware of.

Myth 1 – Loss of memory is Alzheimer’s

Fact – A number of people have memory issues and forgetting about your car keys  does not make you incapable to recollect things. There are a number of other factors including fatigue, sleep deprivation, lack of hydration and other things which could lead to forgetfulness. These problems can cause memory loss on a short term basis but that does not mean that it could be Alzheimer’s

Myth 2 – Alzheimer’s is genetic

Fact – Many people have an opinion that  they might suffer from Alzheimer’s at some point if they have it in their family. But the fact is that it is not the case for everyone.

Myth 3 – Alzheimer’s has a cure

Fact – The fact is that Alzheimer’s does not have a cure at least for now. So far there are no supplements or foods that provide a cure for this condition. There are certain medications that can help to manage the condition and improve the memory, but it cannot reverse the disease.

Myth 4 – It can happen to older people

Fact – The fact is that the condition can also affect people in their 30s and any age or gender. This could happen because of high stress levels apart from inactive lifestyle. Nearly 5 million of the population in the United States suffers from this condition. Out of this figure people who are below the age of 65 is 2 lakhs.
