What is stress? What causes stress and how to deal with it?

Stress has become one of the most common terms in healthcare and one could blame on the lifestyle of people that has led to more people experiencing the pain of the condition. As per the World Health Organization has explained the term as any kind of change that is experienced by the body due to emotional or psychological strain can be called as stress. While there are many levels of the condition and here we will be discussing about a few triggers of it and what kind of symptoms it can show on the body.

What are the causes of stress?

There could be a number of reasons, why it could happen. It could be due to some major changes in the life like a death of a close family member, relationship challenges, extensively busy schedule, separation or divorce from spouse, loss of job, pressure at work or family, injury, illness and it could go on.

Some of the common symptoms of stress

All of the above problems that have been mentioned are not easy to deal with for any person. Such circumstances could put a negative effect on the person’s mental or physical health. Some might experience problems like chest pain, body ache, headache or some might even experience breathing difficulty, fatigue or  a sudden decrease in energy levels. Others can experience weight loss or weight gain, digestive issues, insomnia, skin issues like acne or rashes or an existing health condition could worsen. In women, if stressed it could lead to changes in their menstrual cycle.

How to deal with it?

If you are one of those who are experiencing such symptoms then there is nothing to worry. You just need to take a few precautions and measures.

  1. Stay away from your mobile phones and other devices like computers for a while.
  2. Get ample rest
  3. Slow down and get some help if you feel that you are overworked.
  4. Indulge in a healthy and a balanced diet instead of a heavy diet with processed food.
  5. Indulge in meditation and yoga
  6. If things do not turn around, then do not hesitate to talk to a therapist.
