Amazon caps sales of Plan B and more emergency contraceptives

E-commerce giant Amazon has said that it will be limiting the sales of its Plan B and more emergency contraceptives to only three units per customer amidst a time when the demand of these products have increased. A confirmation about the sales cap has been given by the company to a number of media outlets. It was due to the US Supreme Court overturning of Roe v.Wade last week that had prompted to the spike in the sales of Plan B  and more generic brands of levonorgestrel pills.

On the other hand the customers who have ordered the emergency contraceptives on Amazon will have to face a delay. The main listing of Plan B (levonorgestrel) on Amazon is showing an estimated delivery range of July 19. MyChoice is a generic brand of the drug levonorgestrel and is cheaper than Plan B and is displaying a delivery date of July 28, 2022. Amazon has not yet responded as to when it would be removing the sales cap on the contraceptive pills. Meanwhile Rite-Aid has also put a cap on the sales of its online as well as in-person sales to three per customer.

Walmart is rather generous with the cap and is offering ten per customers of Plan B. Target is limiting the online sales of Plan B to just six orders per customer. Walgreens and CVS have removed the purchase limits on Plan B as of June 28, 2022. Matt Blanchett the senior manager at CVS said that they have ample supplies of the emergency contraceptives to meet the demands of the customers. People who do not want to purchase from Amazon have options to purchase Plan B from other retailers as well. Instacart and GoPuff are offering a same day delivery for Plan B.
