World Brain Tumor Day – Foods that you should include in your diet for a healthy brain

Brain is an organ of the body that is responsible for your everyday activity and proper functioning of every organ. World Brain Tumor Day is observed on June 8 and is a time to spread the awareness about the importance of this organ that is responsible for cognitive functions. While there is no such thing known as a magic pill to protect your brain from any deterioration, but a well-balanced diet, a healthy lifestyle and a few precautions can make sure that you have a healthy brain. Here are some of the foods that you can include in your diet for a healthy brain.

  1. Fishes – Fishes contain natural and healthy fats that are important for a smooth functioning of a brain. Healthy fatty acids promotes good health of the organ and is also helpful to improve long and short term memory. Fishes like salmon and tuna help in stress management as well.
  2. Whole grains – Whole grains contain plenty of fibre and also contain a decent quantity of carbs that provide energy which is important for a proper functioning of the brain. It keeps you alert and enhances concentration with focus. Whole grains are packed with amino acids that help to enhance the good hormones also known as serotonin.
  3. Berries – berries are a good source for anti-oxidants that help to repair the body cells while dealing with inflammation that is caused by free radicals. Blueberries are rich in polyphenols and anthocyanins which are good to deal with the symptoms of depression and anxiety.
  4. Seeds and nuts – Walnuts and pumpkin seeds are good sources of anti-oxidants that help to deal with the process of oxidation of the brain cells. They also contain many other nutrients and minerals that help to develop thinking skills.
  5. Leafy greens – Green and leafy vegetables like spinach and fenugreek contain some of the essential nutrients like vitamin E, K and many others and help to prevent cognitive decline. They help to keep you in good mood all day long.
