Things to know about COVID-19 booster shot and its side effects

COVID-19 booster shots are slowly being recommended for all individuals across the globe. The importance of the booster has increased in recent times as it provides protection from the highly infectious omicron variant. More than 55 million Americans have already received their booster shots and now the Centres for Disease Control has also recommended everyone above the age of 16 to get their third shot.

Importance of a booster

It is natural for the anti-body protection from a vaccine to fade off with time which makes it essential for every individual to boost the immune system’s memory.

Side effects of a booster

The side effects of the booster vaccine is similar to that of the original vaccines. It can include a sore arm, mild to moderate headaches, joint pain, fatigue, fever, muscle aches and chills. However the side effects of the booster shots can differ from the original shots but can differ from person to person. For instance, if a person did not have any symptoms during the original shots, then it is not necessary that they will not experience any side effects while talking the booster. So far no serious side effects have been reported so far except for anaphylaxis which is a life-threatening allergic reaction and blood clots. But these were incredibly rare.

The CDC said that it found not more than 2 to5 people per million who were vaccinated with the original vaccines. Another good news is that the booster shot helps to provide a protection against the latest omicron variant that is spreading across the globe at a faster speed. It is best to take the booster shot and people who are worried about the side effect should understand that the side effects of the vaccine would be much better than COVID itself. Today majority of people who are seriously ill and are admitted to the hospitals are actually those who are not vaccinated.
