United Airlines and Delta Airlines announce flight cancellations

The Christmas Eve is here and three of the airlines in the United States have cancelled flights. United Airlines made the announcement on December 23, 2021 that it had to cancel some of the flights due to the omicron variant of the coronavirus. The memo from the United mentioned that the nationwide spike of omicron cases this week has put a direct impact on the flight crews and also on the people who run the operations. The flight tracking site FlightAware has mentioned that the United has cancelled more than 150 flights.

The company statement mentioned that it is notifying the affected customers in advance before they arrive at the airport. The airline also apologized for the disruption and said that it is working hard on rebooking as many people as possible so they can be on their way to the holidays. On Thursday night even Delta Airlines cancelled more than 100 flights. Delta explained that the cancellations happened due to a number of reasons including the omicron variant scare.

Delta in a statement apologized to the customers for the delay in their holiday travel plans. The statement added that they are working hard to help people reach where they wanted to as quickly as possible and as safely as possible on the next available flight. Even Alaska Airlines released a statement that it had to cancel 17 flights due to the omicron variant scare and added that more cancellations could be expected in the upcoming days.

The omicron variant scare has changed a number of things across the globe and has put a threat towards the improvement in the economy that has been noticed in recent times. However, some of the experts have opined that patients with omicron variant infection showed less to no symptoms and that it could also signify the end of the pandemic that started off in December 2019 in China.
