The liver is the second largest organ in the human body and also has an important role to play in the overall functioning. April 19, is marked as the World Liver Day, which is observed to spread awareness about the health of the liver among people. Apart from the brain, the liver is also one of the most complex organs in the body. It helps to regulate the immune system of the body and also keeps the digestive system in check. In order to keep the complex organs healthy, here are a few steps that you can follow.

1. Eat balanced diet – Diet is like a fuel for the body and what you are eating matters the most. Eating healthy and sensibly makes sense. Eating green and leafy vegetables and food that is high in protein is beneficial for the health. Vegetables like cabbage, carrot, broccoli and cauliflower are good for the liver.

2. Exercise on a regular basis – It is important for the body to give some exercise as it helps to open the lungs to have more oxygen. Since it generates more oxygen, it purifies the blood. If you do not exercise, it can lead to obesity and could cause a problem for the glandular organ.

3. Cut on Alcohol and smoking – Drinking excess alcohol or excess smoking can be harmful for the liver and the lungs. Once the lungs are damaged, it cannot be repaired. It is best to cut down on the alcohol levels and quit smoking altogether.

4. Drink green tea – Green tea does not have any caffeine content due to which it is considered as healthy for the overall health of the body. It is particularly beneficial for the good health of the liver and also improves the blood flow. It also helps to remove all the toxins from the liver.

5. Consume turmeric – Turmeric is a yellow spice that helps to kill bacteria. You can add a pinch of it to your meals and it will help to flush off all the toxins from the body.
