Myths and benefits of pink Himalayan salt

Popularity of pink Himalayan salt has increased in recent times as people are more inclined towards healthy eating and including healthy stuff in their everyday meals. Pink Himalayan salt is different from the regular processed salt that is available in the market. It is different from the salt that is processed from the sea water and is actually excavated from the sources from where it is derived. The reason it has become popular is due to the presence of the minerals like magnesium, calcium, potassium and others.

Myths and benefits related to pink Himalayan salt

1. One of the biggest myths about the salt is that it has lower sodium levels compared to the regular table salt. The fact is that both the salts have 98 percent of sodium chloride.

2. Pink salt comes from a natural source, does not have any additives and is excavated from the Punjab region of Pakistan. Table salt is more refined and is mixed with additives to prevent any clumping.

3. Pink salt is beneficial for the body as it helps to maintain the fluid balance in the body that prevents the body from getting dehydrated. The presence of sodium is important to maintain fluid balance.

4. People who consume only pink salt, could be prone to deficiency of iodine. Iodine is important for the body and in order to maintain the levels it is also important to consume iodized salt also.

How can it be used –

Pink Himalayan salt can be used as a regular salt. You can season the food while preparing meals. If it is in crystalized form, you can churn it in to the food processor to make it easier to be used as a regular salt. Make sure that you store it in an air tight container to prevent clumping. There are also lamps and candle holders which are available in the market and are helpful to boost mood and improve sleep.
