Experts insist on banning in-store grocery shopping

While the number of infected patients of the novel coronavirus does not seem to subside across the globe, experts are trying to find what exactly is going wrong and which are the most vulnerable places. While staying at home is the safest, but groceries are essential if you need to be at home. Grocery stores are very vulnerable to infections. Experts have advised to have a total ban on the indoor grocery shopping and can offer pre-ordered pick up for the customers instead. The move has been terms as essential as this will also help to keep safe the workers in the store.

Amidst the pandemic, the grocery stores continue to have customers at a large scale and it is high time that some of the big chains in the retail business discourage indoor shopping and switch to pickup facilities or home deliveries for the items which are termed as essential. Marc Perrone, the president of United Food and Commercial Workers Union has expressed that there are a few customers who are careless and they pose the biggest threat to their workers. Despite creating awareness by people across the globe, there are some careless people who refuse to take basic precautions and put other people at risk.

The union also informed that 85 percent of the store workers had reported that the customers do not practice social distancing in the stores. On the other hand John Logan the professor and director of Labor and Employment Studies, has also supported the ban of in-store shopping at grocery stores. Logan stressed that measures have to be taken that reduces the interaction with the public and allows for physical distancing which can protect the store workers.

While there are advantages on banning the in-store shopping there is also a section who cannot afford the extra cost of the service. But it is also a fact that the ordering systems for pick-up and delivery are currently overwhelmed by demand.
