5 common misconceptions of coronavirus

Coronavirus originated in Wuhan, China and has already claimed lives of about 500 people in the country. About thousands have been tested positive and health experts are working hard on finding a vaccine and treatment for the same. While people are taking ample measures to deal with it, there are a number of misconceptions that people are having. Here are a few misconceptions that you need to be aware of.

1. The virus cannot be caught from an animal – The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that so far there is no evidence that your pet dog or cat could be infected with coronavirus. But it is said to be originated from wildlife and came from a live animal market in Wuhan, China. However, that does not mean that the animals could be the spreaders.

2. Face masks are not very useful – While many people have started wearing the face masks to protect themselves. This is because, they are generally too loose and do not help to cover the eyes and cannot be worn for a long period of time. On the other hand you can cover your mouth when you are sneezing or coughing with a tissue and throw it after a single use.

3. It does not always claims lives – Some of the top experts have said that people who have some mild symptoms, cough, fever and running nose can also recover. The virus has the ability to make people seriously ill but the number of people who are being killed is small. A good personal hygiene is recommended.

4. It is safe to eat Chinese food – The WHO has assured that people do not have to avoid local food from food outlets. For a person to get infected, one needs to be close in contact with the person who is infected and within two meters for at least 15 minutes.

5. There is no treatment – It is a fact that there is no particular vaccine or medicines. But there are treatment options and most of the people get better on their own as well.
