Apple is not opening a new manufacturing unit in Texas

US president Donald Trump is surely ambitious to pressurize Apple on building its own manufacturing unit in the US. So much that he has already announced that he just opened a big Apple manufacturing plant in Texas, which will be opening high paying jobs in America. Trump had toured the Mac Pro manufacturing unit in Austin Texas and was accompanied with CEO Tim Cook.

The president during the visit said that he visualizes a very powerful and an important plant and that he wishes he builds more plants in the United States in future. After the tour , the President Tweeted that he opened a big manufacturing plant but forgot to mention a few facts about the facility that he claimed he opened. The first fact is that the facility that Trump has mentioned is owned by Apple contractor Flex and not by Apple. And another major fact is that the facility is not new and the company has been making the Mac Pro devices at the same facility since 2013.

But Apple does have plans to open a new facility in Austin at a place of 3 million square foot space where the employees will be performing many functions that include research and development, sales, finance as well as customer support. Talking about the Mac Pro plant, Tim Cook said that it is a big $1 billion investment that will create the second biggest site of Apple after its headquarters in Cupertino. The new facility that has been mentioned is not a manufacturing plant but will have high paying jobs and will mostly be white collar jobs in segments like sales, finance and engineering.

Apple continued to keep the Mac Pro manufacturing unit in the US due to constant negotiations with the Trump administration. Some of the earlier reports had claimed that Apple was planning to move the production of Mac Pro to China. But after a couple of months, Apple announced that it would continue to make the Mac Pro in Austin.
