Coughing is a problem that gives sleepless nights and even the best of cough syrups or medicines do not help during the night time. This is the time when home remedies work the best and can be done with the ingredients that are available at home. Coughing can leave you irritated for a long time and affects the working hours and medicines that include cough syrups leave your drowsy during the day time making it difficult to perform or work. Here are a few home remedies that are highly effective and can give instant relief.
1. Spiced tea – There cannot be anything better than a hot cup of tea that has a blend of spices like ginger, cinnamon and basil leaves to soothe a sore throat. Heat some water and add tea leaves along with a good one inch of ginger, a few basil leaves and cinnamon to it and give it a good boil for about three minutes. The warm spiced soothe the throat and provide relief.
2. Warm turmeric milk – Turmeric not just has healing properties but also has anti-inflammatory abilities. Heat milk and add one teaspoon of sugar, one spoonful of turmeric and half teaspoon of clarified butter. This hot milk can be taken just before going to bed and helps the throat to heal. The clarified butter also helps to soothe the throat.
3. Liquorice –Liquorice is rich in anti-oxidants and also has anti-inflammatory properties. The spice has anti- bacterial properties and helps to reduce inflammation and thus reduces the problem of coughing. Just a piece of liquorice can be kept in the mouth and you can keep sucking it at regular intervals.
4. Black Pepper – Black pepper is another spice which is known for its heat. It can be a great ingredient that helps to reduce congestion. Take half a teaspoon of black pepper powder and mix it in some ghee. Mix the ingredients properly and it can be had after every meal.
